Lisa Bragança Appears in “Apes Together Strong” GameStop Investment Documentary
“Apes together strong” is a popular quote from the 2011 science fiction film Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and it is one of the mottoes of Reddit’s r/WallStreetBets community, day traders, and retail investors who refer to themselves as “apes” in contrast to Wall Street’s experts. The subreddit made financial headlines when members of the community moved their money into GameStop stock, hoping to undermine the various hedge funds which had been shorting the retailer. The members of r/WallStreetBets see their actions as proof that – provided the rules are fair – the “apes” can outsmart the Wall Street experts.
“Apes Together Strong” is now the title of a documentary by award-winning filmmakers Quinn and Finley Mulligan. Attorney and former SEC Branch Chief Lisa Bragança explains in the documentary how day traders and retail investors are used and exploited by the big broker-dealers, who actually prevented some of the “apes” from investing in GameStop, and she discusses how the GameStop story has exposed the Wall Street corruption that exploits and takes advantage of day traders and retail investors.
